Assign Differentiated Levels of a Close Reading & Writing Lesson
Hello Partners, follow these steps to differentiate levels on a Close Reading & Writing module inside of the Writing Across the Curriculum library. Here, Close Reading & Writing lessons are organized into modules with a unique version at grade levels or grade bands.
Please note: in order to ensure students are being exposed to authentic texts, the texts and writing prompts will vary across versions but all will focus on the same overarching theme, Class Discussion Question, and writing type.
- After you’ve determined which versions you’d like to assign, select the “Assign Lesson” button.
- Select only one class to allow for differentiated assignments. Select “Next.”
- Versions will be automatically selected for the class based on the student’s assigned Reading Level. Note that students will automatically receive the class grade level as their reading level but teachers can manually adjust as desired.
- To add other versions to the assignment, select the student dropdown and deselect “All Students” or individual students and select “+ Add Another Level.”
- Choose the next version from the grade-level dropdown then repeat steps 4 and 5 for each version you wish to assign.
- To remove certain versions, simply click the x to the right of the level you wish to remove and select “All Students” on the remaining version.
- Once you are satisfied with the student selections, click “Next.”
- Select your desired dates for the assignment.
- If applicable, leave the checkbox to enable AI scoring for students or uncheck the box if you do not want students to receive AI scores.
- Click “Assign.”
